Lumber Prices Finally Dropping – What I Saw at the Yard Today

Just got back from the lumber yard and prices have finally started coming down. After two years of seeing hardwood costs through the roof, this is welcome news for anyone planning projects.

What I’m Seeing

Woodworking tools

Red oak is down about 15% from last year. Walnut has dropped too, though it’s still pricey. The guys at my local yard said supply chains are finally catching up.

Cherry remains expensive but available. If you’ve been waiting to start that dining table project, now might be the time.

My Advice

Don’t rush out and buy everything at once. Prices may continue dropping through spring. But if you see a good deal on something you need, grab it.

I picked up some 8/4 white oak today at a price I haven’t seen in three years. Sometimes you just have to pull the trigger.

What are you seeing at your local yards? Prices varying a lot by region from what I hear.
